The Saintly One

It is an interactive hybrid situation composed of 3 (three) phases: (a) live actions, (b) videos and (c) web site.



Last chapter of American Lessons, it could be situated in the wide territory of performance art as a set of actions that create situations involving the public. Its dorsal spine is an abstract political candidacy to a not-identified position. In Brazil we call Santinho, little saint, to the cheapest advertisement for political campaings - a little piece of paper with the photo and the candidate´s number and name printed on it.

A series of public encounters were promoted, and on each presentation, elements, acting as interfaces, were available for the visitors and for the promoter of the campaign - like a very simple questionnaire offered to the visitors, stamps, stickers. All the actions were documented. This information migrated to the cyberspace where all the simulations ‘re-materialize' becoming reality and history.

The Saint's search is for communication and contact with the Other. From the simplest, direct conversation, it follows evolving in complexity, stressing the role of media in contemporary society.

The online space works like a database that receives and makes available information relating to the basic theme that is the inquiry: "what is art for?" It is also an advertising space and a commercial interface allowing the online purchase of products such as T-shirts and videos.

A database doc-fiction film for cyberspace - The Saintly One is a hybrid narrative between documentary, reality show, catalog or electronic publication and net art.
