Cacophony

Digital video, NTSC, color, sound, 3 min, 2003.
Directed & edited by: Simone Michelin
Audio track: fragments of Glauber Rocha’s film Câncer, 1968-72; music: Astor Piazzola and Roberto Carlos.

Cacophony scene 2 and scene 3 were created for the exhibition "Image no Image", curated by Christine Mello for Galeria Vermelho - São Paulo.

Cacophony weaves historic events in the fields of art and the politics. The audio perverts its system installing an ironic, cynic or even pathetic order. Fragments of the sound track of Glauber Rocha’s film “Câncer” describing a 1968 Rio de Janeiro, the student riots against ditactorship, the intellectuals’ gathering at the Museum of Modern Art and the people in the countryside (dying as usual)follows the video scenes that show the opening ceremony of the XXV International Biennial of São Paulo, 2002.
